Episode 92 Summary
Carl Pullein returns to Multinewmedia to talk more about his work within the productivity field and his recently revised book, Your Digital Life 2.0. Carl is a YouTuber, blog and e-book author, productivity coach, English language consultant for business, and a teacher.
Chase and Carl begin by talking about where the business momentum for growth is currently originating for Carl. Carl asserts that the momentum is solidly with YouTube still. The conversation begins to shift into teaching for a few moments about learning styles (or modalities) and how to match as many of them as possible and provide value to students. The conversation quickly comes back to productivity and a number of great quotes come directly from Carl.
"Pick one [tool], stick with it, and make it work for you."
"Focus more on the work and less on the tools."
Your Digital Life 2.0 is the next topic discussed. Carl suggests that the first version of the book was for those who have no particular interest in technology but who routinely have to work with it now as cellphones and other mobile devices have become so prevalent for productivity, replacing everything from calculators to day planners. He says that the reach of the second edition of the book is significantly larger, and Chase states that content creators should especially take note of the book. Somewhere within all of this talk about Your Digital Life 2.0 was a lengthy tangent about Dropbox and its merits and challenges from larger companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Google.
A variety of topics from Your Digital Life 2.0, along with Carl's online courses, were discussed to make up the bulk of the second half of the episode. Carl talked to Chase about: Inbox Zero 2.0; the P.A.C.T. Model of Digital Productivity (Patience, Action, Consistency, Time); the content creator's mindset; social media planning, digital distractions and a general lack of focus; and the business opportunities to succeed in the 21st century on the web.
The show concluded with Carl and Chase comparing thoughts on how long it takes for one to reach "overnight success" on average. They both generally agree that the timescale is much longer than many entrepreneurs and content creators would like, or even think about. But, by following the P.A.C.T. Model, it can be achieved.
